Alice Cooper Thinks Next Rockstar Biopic Should Be About Him

Shock rock icon Alice Cooper wants Hollywood to know something about him: he's had a darn interesting life, too.

Music-centered dramas are a growing trend in movies today, and some producer out there is surely looking for the next hit in the genre.

With the runaway success of Queen's Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and of the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga-led remake of A Star Is Born last year, plus Mötley Crüe's The Dirt due next month and Elton John biopic Rocketman coming this summer, there's no shortage of interest out there in music films.

Alice points out that his own life's story has everything we love in a good biopic: humble beginnings, innovation, a rise to fame, controversy, addiction, a fall from grace and redemption.

"I mean, there's so many good tales in the Alice Cooper story," Alice told NME in a new interview. "We were the band nobody liked. We were the band that never had a chance to make it. Not only did we make it but I'm still doing it 50 years later, and I think the show's better now than it was then. But the fact we were the biggest underdog of all time to actually make it commercially in this business and keep it going — that story right there is amazing."

The son of a preacher, Vincent Damon Furnier (Alice Cooper) fell deeply in love with rock 'n' roll in his teens. After developing the villain character of "Alice Cooper" as a live gimmick, the band worked the clubs in Arizona and then Southern California before being discovered by famed music manager Shep Gordon.

Despite the ups and downs of Alice's career, his story is also one of strong relationships. He pointed out to NME that he's been married to his wife Sheryl Goddard for 43 years. Even Gordon, who's now mostly retired, continues to work with Alice.

"So I mean there's so many aspects to it — me beating alcoholism, beating drug addiction 37 years ago, my association with the Hollywood Vampires — you know, Harry Nilsson and all the guys. It could be a great stage play."

On the subject of Hollywood Vampires, Alice says he knows just the person to play him: his band mate Johnny Depp.

"Well, you know, I told Johnny Depp that he would be great at it if he were just a little better looking," Cooper joked.
